Poipet hotel and lodging guide
Win a fortune at the Crown Hotel and Casino
The accommodation options in Poipet range from the grimy windowless rooms in very average guesthouses and budget hotels, to semi-opulence at over half a dozen casinos. There is not much in between, and many hotels in town unfortunately make most of their income from sex tourists, meaning that spending the night in Poipet is not generally advised or enjoyable.
The streets are not safe to walk around at night, so if you have to stay, make sure it’s as close to the border as possible, or be sure to take transport to your destination. Across the border in Thailand, the town of Aranyaprathet offers safer, cleaner rooms and is a far better option. The hotel/ guesthouse options we have listed are ones we know do not operate as brothels, any others make keep you awake all night for all the wrong reasons. All take Thai baht.

Casino accommodation in Poipet
All of the casinos are located in the ‘zone’ between the two official border points. Don’t be tempted by offers of free rooms in exchange for cashing a certain amount worth of chips – these cannot be cashed out and if you choose to leave early you won’t get a refund. Prices start from around 800 baht in low season, higher on weekends, though these change almost daily. There is little to choose from in terms of room standard between most, but we’ve listed the better ones with the best range of facilities.
Holiday Palace Casino: One of the original complexes after the country opened its doors to tourism, Holiday Palace remains a favourite, with an impressive variety of suites. The 430-room resort has stylish marble bathrooms, a nightclub, golf course and numerous eateries.
Prices vary hugely, from 1,000 baht for a standard room up to 8,000 baht for the penthouse suite. Deluxe rooms are priced around 3,500 baht, but be warned, weekends see rooms often double in price as Thai gamblers come streaming in. Border zone, open 24hrs, tel: + (855) (0)54 967 097.
Grand Diamond City Hotel & Casino: Standard four-star hotel rooms, ranging from superior to deluxe and suites. Prices are up to the front desk staff on the day but expect to pay around 800 baht. This is one place designed specifically for gambling, with the 300 rooms supporting the biggest collection of poker and gaming machines in the country. The rooms, however, are fairly plain. Border zone, open 24hrs, tel: + (855) (0)54 967 097.
Star Vegas Resort Hotel: One of the few places where the food and beverage staff actually win praise, Star Vegas has a decent swimming pool, golf course, gymnasium and spa in addition to 10,000 square feet of gaming space. As with Grand Diamond, Tropicana and the others lined up along the zone, rooms are adequate but there to support the gambling. Prices fluctuate depending on Thai holidays but are consistent with its competitors. Border zone, open 24hrs, tel: + (855) (0)12 242 768.
Crown Resort Casino: Crown Resort is one of the better hotels in the Casino zone, offering slightly more upscale rooms starting from 1000 baht in addition to ‘free room for gambling chips’ deals and several food outlets, with mainly Thai-Western fusion dining. Well presented and clean with hordes of friendly, welcoming female staff. Border zone, tel: +66 (0)81 919 4425. (Thai)
